John Peel

News – Autumn 2005

Complete Music is delighted to announce that a cover of the Buzzcocks’ classic “Ever Fallen In Love” is to be released on November 21st as part of a series of events taking place this autumn to mark the first anniversary of the death of the legendary DJ John Peel. Pete Shelley will be joined by a star-studded line-up, including Robert Plant, Sir Elton John, Jeff Beck and The Futureheads to record the charity tribute single.

The cover, released on EMI Records, was prompted by Peel's son Tom Ravenscroft while working on the TV documentary, which explores his father's record collection and will be aired on November 16. "We have tried to make the single a bit like one of dad's shows, in that it's a mixture of different artists and styles. All the artists on the record have at sometime been played by dad, whether recently or before I was born.”

The single comes as part of an abundance of Peel-related activity. There will be a tribute album, as well as Channel 4 screening a documentary as part of its 2005 UK Music Hall of Fame coverage and Transworld publishing the official biography, which was started by the broadcaster and completed by his widow Sheila Ravenscroft.

Thursday 13th October marks BBC Radio 1’s first "John Peel Day" remembering the celebrated DJ.

Singer/songwriter Chloë, signed to Sony BMG Australia, entered the Australian singles chart at #10 with her cover of The Primitives 1988 hit single “Crash”. To find out more visit www.chloe.net.au

Charles Mingus’ “Theme For Lester Young” is to be used in the forthcoming feature film ‘Where The Truth Lies’, from Atom Egoyan (he of ‘Exotica’ and ‘The Sweet Hereafter’). It's been rated NC-17 in the States for naughtiness!

Alison Lohman stars as a journalist, focusing on her search for the truth behind a long ago covered-up incident that effects the private and working relationship between a former powerhouse comedy duo of the calibre of Martin & Lewis, played by Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth. It's dark, it's sexy, and it seems like new and yet at the same time familiar territory for Egoyan. It's due for Dec 2nd release in the UK. In the meantime, you can see the trailer here
